Phonological Awareness
Mahli, a seven-year-old second grader at Hillsborough Academy of Math and Science, completed the Phonological Awareness Survey on October 9, 2015. Mahli received a raw score of 30/30, or 100%, on all five sections in the survey. The results indicate that Mahli has a strong sense of phonological awareness. It appears that Mahli’s phonological awareness is typical of other second graders.
While Mahli has an excellent phonological awareness, the teacher can provide interactive activities with the letters sounds and rimes to get Mahli engaged. Such activities can include the use of magnets or white boards for students to create their own rhymes, blends, and words.
